Endangered plants in Indonesia

  Corpse flower (Amphophallus Becc titanum)
 
This is the largest flower in the world, through the flowers, smell the odor like the smell of carrion. This plant is a endemic to Sumatra island.
 
Raflesia flower (Refflesia amoldi)
 
The flower petals are a very large size and release odors such as the smell of carrion. Flower buds which have medicinal properties resulted in the passage of this flower is often looted. This plant is native habitat on the island of Sumatra especially in Bengkulu, Jambi, and south Sumatra.
 
Gaharu Wood (Aquilaria sp)

This is a woody plant but lightweight and requires a very long time to grow. Red Meranti plants can absorb elemental carbon in the forest so stout plant used as industrial commodities.
 
Fragrant sandalwood (Satalum album)
 
This plant is used as fragrances and spices (incense or aromatherapy). High value causes the plant continues to be hunted and became endangered, sandalwood is found in East Nusa Tenggara.
 
Nepenthes (Nepnthes L.)
 
A unique plant that has pockets, this plant is very rare because it only grows in areas containing little nitrogen. Pitcher plants found in the forest at Tangkuban Perahu, West Java.

6 Functions of Indonesian forest

  Indonesia is one of countries with the largest forest area in the world and really need to do the conservation. It also completed with a management of forests for conservation and ecological balance of the earth nature. Different types of forests in Indonesia have the following functions.

The Danger Of Transporting Radioactive Materials

 There are three separate sources of hazard in the process of supplying energy by nuclear power. The radioactive materials just travel from its place of manufacture to the power station. although the power stations themselves are solidly built, the containers used for the transport of the materials are not. there are normally only two methods of transport available, namely road or rail, unfortunately and both of the these involve close contact with the general public, since the routes are sure to pass near, or even through, heavily populated areas.

 Next, there is problem of waste. allowance nuclear power stations produce wastes that in most cases will remain radioactive, and so they must be stored in one of the inconvenient ways that scientists have invented. for example they may be buried under the ground, or dropped into abandoned mines, or sunk in the sea. however, these methods do not solve the problem, since an earthquake could easily crack the containers open.

 Finally, there is problem of accidental exposure due to e leak or an explosion at the power station. as with the other two hazards, this not very likely, so it does not provide a serious objection to the nuclear program. nevertheless, it can happen.

 Separately these three types of risks are not a great cause for concern. on the whole though, the probability of disaster it still high.

The Mystery Of Migrating Birds

 One of the most mysterious thing in nature is ability of certain creatures to find their way home, sometimes from great distance. birds are not the only ones who can do this. bees, eels, and salmon one able to return to a particular place after doing journeys, too.

 Most migrations take place between breeding grounds and regions where animals feed. for some animals, such as the lamming, the move is a one way trip. scientists call this movement emigrations, because these animals never return to their homes. for other animals, such as birds, the migration , or at regular times during their lives, and often to the same place year after year.

 May experiments have been made with birds. in an attempt to find out what guides them on their way home. in one case, seven swallows were taken 400 miles from home. when they were set free, five of them returned to their nests. in another case, a certain kind of sea bird was taken from its nests on the welsh coast to venice by plane. when it was neteased, it made its way home to its nests, a distance of 930 miles if it flew in straight line.

 Migrating birds offer an even more amazing example of this ability. there are swifts and house martins that migrate from England to south Africa every year. they not only return to England the next spring, but many of them come back to nests in the very same house they nested the year before. they fly the incredible distance 6,000 miles, one way. certain types of butterfly migrate, too and find their way home over long distances. in the tropics one can some times see the great mass flights of butterflies all flying steadily in one direction. the may go a thousand miles and more and then return again in another season.

 Despite all the efforts that have been made to explain how these creatures find their way home, we still have no sure explanation. since many of the birds fly over great bodies of water, we cannot explain it by saying the use landmarks to guide them. just to say they have an "instinct" does not really explain the right conditions. the reason they do it may be to obtain for good or to reproduce under the right conditions. but the signals and guides posts they use on their flights are still a mystery to man.

Problems Caused By Computers

Technology brings problems as well as benefits to humankind. since henry ford began mass-producing then in 1908. automobiles have provided us with a cheap and conveniet means of transportation. however the have also broughts us traffic jams and air pollution. a technological development that is changing our lives as much as the automobiles is the personal computer. since the 1980s, personal computers have become common in homes, schools, and businesses, and just as automobiles have brought unexpected problems, so have personal computers.

To begin with, communication by computer has caused some problems. althought we can easily send a message to hundreds of people in a instant, we can also receive hundreds of messages, both wanted and unwanted, in just a few minutes. it took several hours to read all of them. the lack of censorship in cyberspace in another problems that no one has solved yet. our expanded ability to communicate means that anyone with a computer can communicate anything to anyone on any subject at any time. therefore, a computer-literate child can receive pornographic photos and listen to chat-room conversation about sex.

In addition to problems in communication, computers have also caused problem in business. they have created excellent apportunities for computerized crime. computer criminals use their skills to obtain secret business information and to steal money. maneover, the use computer has depersonalised business. people are no longer customers; they are account numbers. face to face business transaction are no longer necesarry, you can buy almost anything you need by computer, phone, or fax. also, as telecommunicating becomes more common, workers in the same company interact with each other less and less. someday it may be possible to have a company of people who have never met face to face.
